Abia State honours coach Obuh
Obuh - Deserved honour
Nwobuko Emelike from the office of the secretary of the Abia State Government conveyed plans to honour Obuh at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cenotaph in Umuahia.
“It’s a big honour to be so considered by the Abia State Government. I’m most humbled by this recognition and this will spur me to greater heights,” said an elated Obuh.
The title of ‘Oke Oji’, which literally means ‘Iroko tree’, is in tribute to the strings of achievements recorded by Obuh as coach.
Obuh led Nigeria to win the 2011 African Youth Championship (AYC) in South Africa and also guided the team to reach the last eight of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia.
He also was in charge when the Golden Eaglets reached the final of the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup in Abuja.
Obuh led Sharks to win an historic sub-regional WAFU Cup in 2010 and break a 38-year run by the Port Harcourt without a major piece of silverware.
In 2009, he also won promotion for kwara United back to the Nigeria Premier League.
He is currently piloting the Flying Eagles towards qualification to the 2013 AYC to be hosted by Algeria.
