The group phase of this year’s Federation Cup will be played across Nigeria in four centres from July 16, officials have announced.

Dynamite Force of Benin and Samba FC of Enugu are the two non-league clubs through to the group stage of the country’s longest competition.

Despite the sensational ouster of top clubs like Shooting Stars, Akwa United, ABS, Sunshine Stars and Kaduna United, this year’s tournament is again dominated by clubs from the Nigeria Premier League as there are nine of them still in contention.

Cup holders Heartland, Enugu Rangers, Gombe United, Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars, Warri Wolves, Sharks and Kwara United all feature in the top flight.

While from the lower leagues are Nasarawa United, El Kanemi Warriors, Prime FC, Crown FC and Plateau United.

The group phase will be concluded on July 20.

Lagos will again stage the final of the cup competition with the winners representing Nigeria in next year’s CAF confederation Cup.
