Niger will be boosted by at least eight
overseas-based pros for Wednesday’s friendly against Nigeria, officials said.
FENIFOOT officials revealed that no less than eight foreign-based players will feature against Nigeria in a game both teams are using to prepare for 2013 Nations Cup qualifiers next month.
Among the Niger stars already in camp are Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia’s Moussa Maazou, Dauoda Kasali, Club Africaine of Tunisia’s Kailou Daouda, Souse FC of Tunisia’s Koffi dan Kowa and Asseydou and their biggest import, Daloued Wonkoge, who plays for Feyenoord in the Dutch top flight.
Daouda is expected in goal, Kader, Chikot, Mazadou and Soumaila normally man the defence. In the midfield, the likes of Laouali, Lancina, Talatou and Isoufou will feature, while the attack has A. Issoufou and Maazou.
Officials of Federation Niger du Football, FENIFOOT, are taking the game against the Super Eagles much more than a friendly.
Ahmad Dauda, an official of FENIFOOT, explained that because the game has been listed by FIFA and it would be used for ranking of both national teams.
“We like Nigeria but this is a game of football and friendship is out of it because we don’t want to lose to Nigeria,” he said.
Nigeria will be led by Warri Wolves goalkeeper Chiegozie Agbim with Uzochukwu Ugonna from Rangers starting from right back position in place of Godfrey Oboabona, who is away on CAF Champions League duty with Sunshine Stars.
Juwon Oshaniwa of Sharks will start for the Eagles from the left, while Papa Idris and Azubuike Egwuekwe will combine in the heart of the back four.
Newly appointed Niger coach, Ivorian Francoise Zahoui, will watch the friendly from the stands as the last coaches to the 2012 AFCON led by a Frenchman will be fully in charge.
This is to give the new coach an idea of the team he will be managing after recently penning a two-year contract with FENIFOOT.
Zahoui was at the Stade Gen Seyni Kountche stadium on Tuesday evening to watch both the Super Eagles and Menas train for Wednesday’s friendly.
Nigeria trained first before the hosts took over the pitch with a sizeable number of fans coming to watch the workout of both teams. The new Nigerien coach arrived the country only on Monday.
Meanwhile, the harsh weather in Niamey, the Niger capital, has been calmed by rainfall which fell all through Monday night and immediately after the Eagles training on Tuesday.
“We hope the weather remains like this for us to do our best”, declared Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi.
