French champions Montpellier are interested in Nigeria midfielder Raheem Lawal, who is currently in Turkey negotiating with an unnamed club.

MTNFootball.com specially gathered that Montpellier “have shown interest” in Lawal, who was the stand-out star for Nigeria at the 2012 Olympic qualifiers in Morocco last year and has since been capped by the country at full international level.

“His representatives have already been discussing with Montpellier, who have shown interest,” a source disclosed.

Nigeria striker John Utaka helped Montpellier clinch their first-ever French Ligue 1 Championship last season.

They will therefore feature in the UEFA Champions League in the new season.

However, the highly-rated Raheem Lawal is at the moment in Turkey undergoing trials with an unnamed club without the approval of his management team.

Lawal is locked in a dispute with his Spanish club Atletico Belares after he refused to rejoin the team for pre-season training since the Eagles qualifiers in June.

MTNFootball.com has been informed the former U20 star still has two years left on his contract with Belares, who failed to gain promotion to the Spanish Segunda division this past season.
