Shittu upset by Nigeria snub
Shittu - upset to be pushed out of Eagles
'The Yak' presses for Eagles recall
QPR defender Danny Shittu has revealed that he and several other
Nigeria stars were upset to be overlooked by former national team coach Samson
Siasia without any reasons.
“I was completely disappointed when the likes of Yakubu, Etuhu, myself and some other players were left out of the national team,” said big centre half Shittu, who last played for the Eagles at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“I have never had a bad game that will lead to my being blacklisted from the national team like that.
“It makes you upset to have been pushed out of the team for whatsoever reasons after playing at the World Cup.”
He added: “I was hurt because this is my country and I have always wanted to give my utmost to her, only for me to be left out in the cold for some reasons best known to them.
“Everyone of us was very upset to have been pushed out just like that.
“Thank God most of us have been justified – Yak is scoring goals again, while Etuhu is doing well at Fulham.
“And it is just a matter of time before I return to full fitness because I still have a lot to offer Nigeria.”
Shittu is back at English Premier League side QPR and has featured in seven games this season before he suffered an injury, but he said he will return to action “in a couple of weeks”.
Former Eagles coach Siasia left out several experienced players during his brief stint in a bid to rebuild the team with younger players ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
However, Siasia’s successor Stephen Keshi has now announced plans to bring back these players ahead of next year’s qualifying matches for both the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as well as Brazil 2014.
