US training for F Eagles?
26 April 2011
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are studying a proposal for the Flying Eagles to train in Miami, Florida, United States of America, ahead of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
Miami has similar weather conditions to that of Colombia, where the 2011 Under-20 World Cup will be staged, and it is also just a stone throw by air.
However, officials are wary of the hassles of securing entry visas to the USA for the team after the troubles they experienced recently in the case of the home-based Eagles for an invitational tournament in Dallas, Texas.
“There is another proposal to train in Colombia and we would rather work with what is realistic,” a top official disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles will take on hosts Korea, Uruguay and New Zealand in an invitational tournament fixed for between May 5 to 10, officials have disclosed.
Like the Flying Eagles, both Korea and Uruguay have qualified for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Colombia from July and so this will be a good test for the five-time African champions.
Top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the Flying Eagles will depart for Suwon City, Korea, on May 3 from Lagos, a day after their arrival from the African Youth Championship in South Africa.
The Nigeria U20s are due to pick up their entry visas to Korea on Friday in Johannesburg.
