Nigeria's Ikechukwu Uche, Most Valued Player of the Match

Nigeria’s Super Eagles thrashed Argentina 4-1 in a friendly Wednesday at the Abuja National Stadium to record their first-ever win over the two-time world champions.

Nigeria have only managed a draw with Argentina before this result with the South Americans winners on three different occasions.

The hosts dominated this game from start to finish and Argentina were never really in this game as they hardly threatened the Nigerian goal and created very few openings.

“We did very well. We started well, we gained confidence with the early goal and we could have scored more goals,” said the man of the match Ikechukwu Uche.

“This result will help us to prepare for Sunday’s game (vs Ethiopia, Nations Cup qualifier). It will lift our confidence and we will keep working very hard to keep making the fans happy.”

“It’s a very good result for us. We now have a lot of confidence going to Ethiopia. We are going there to win the game,” added skipper Joseph Yobo.

Real Zaragoza striker Uche grabbed a brace to continue his rich vein of form in front of goal with new Fenerbache signing Emmanuel Emenike scoring his first goal for the Eagles on 53 minutes.

Emenike, 24, made up for an earlier miss after coming on as a second half substitute.

Obinna Nsofor was also on target from the penalty spot on the 27th minute after Victor Anichebe was fouled inside the box.

Argentina consolation goal was from the penalty spot courtesy of Mauro Boselli after Efe Ambrose was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.

Nigeria thus won the glittering trophy presented by the headline sponsors of the match.

NIGERIA: Vincent Enyeama (Dele Aiyenugba 46) – Chibuzor Okonkwo (Yusuf Ayila 68), Taye Taiwo, Joseph Yobo, Efe Ambrose – Mikel Obi, Joel Obi (Fengor Ogude 72), Kalu Uche (Ahmed Musa 46)- Ike Uche, Victor Anichebe (Emmanuel Emenike 45), Obinna Nsofor (Peter Utaka 80) samm audu

Kudos to the super eagles, more greese to your elbow. It's time for Nigeria to show the world that she is alive and not dead not only in football but in all areas of life. This is a great achievement for the NFA in the world ranking, and am sure that if we continue like this, we will surely get to the promise land. Good playing, good tactics, and good game.

Nothing will gladden the hearts of Nigerians more than to see their Super Eagles show that its resounding, 4 - 1 beating of Argentina on Wednesday, June 1st was no fluke and a flash in the pan as some people would want to think, including the Ethiopians.
Coach Samson Siasia should instruct his boys to destroy Ethiopia with goals. Shut the mouths of Ethiopians fans like @ROBEL KEBEDE. Nigerians believe that with the type of tactical play witnessed against the Argentines, the Eagles have regained their composure.
No other time to announce to the World that we are back and better than using the Ethiopians as a 1st major African victim on Sunday, 5 in their own backyard. Eagles Deserve some respect here.
Go, Super Eagles! Beat the hungry-looking Ethiopians blue and black!
