Mighty
Jets, one of the club noted for churning out talents, will be making
their second successive appearance in the Ghanaian top-flight this term. The club however began to stir controversy in Ghana football even before their entry into the elite division.
A weird cricket score line in the ultimate promotional series play-off game against Nania FC attracted a huge public uproar which later resulted in a one year ban in 2007on suspicion of match fixing.
Jets earned Premier League qualification two years later after serving the ban after ironically beating Nania FC 1-0. The first season in the elite division was very difficult for Mighty Jets.
A poor first round meant they had to punch above their weight in the second to guarantee their premier league status by the end of the 2010/2011 season.
A hard-fought 1-0 win over Ebusua Dwarfs on the league’s final day coupled with other results going their way ensured the maintenance of Jets’ Premier League status by just a single point.
However, the club has been again tipped to experience the struggle this term following their very tough pre-season activities. Mighty Jets have signed former Hearts of Oak defender and captain Hassan Mohammed to aid their campaign.
Former Bofoakwa FC coach Jonas Amissah joined the club midstream and steered them to beat the drop. He has been maintained for their second spell.
