Ghanaian fans angry with Di Matteo over Essien snub
Michael Essien was an unused substitute for Chelsea in the final against Bayern Munich
Essien was made to warm the bench in the final match which travelled into extra-time at the Allianz Arena, home of their victims Bayern Munich.
Di Matteo, who was acting as an interim manager, opted to start Dutch youngster Ryan Bertrand.
Ghanaian fans went into a state of frenzy after Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba converted the final spot-kick which secured a 4-3 penalty victory.
But some had reservations about the win which was least expected by
"As for this, Di Matteo didn't try at all. At least he should have played Essien. He could have made a difference although not in top form," Kobby Asmah, a typical Chelsea fan said.
"I think other Ghanaians who have won the Champions League before made marks and so Essien's absence takes something away from this victory," Victoria Agyei posted on twitter.
Essien has been down on the pecking order since returning from injury in January this year.
The Ghana international joined Chelsea from French side Olympique Lyon in 2005.

Nigeria fans and Ivory coast and the rest of Africa are Happy . When the ghana Serbian coach accused ghanian players of using juju on each other, that pretty much made ghanian players all over the world as cheaters. When you don't care about welfare of your fellow team mate, why would any coach want to field you in a big match. I love mike essien but ghana reputation as a juju user probaly played a roll on him getting snubbed by Roberto Di matteo.
