Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan won a double at the maiden National Player Awards ceremony held at the State Banquet Hall on Friday.

The Sunderland ace was adjudged the Top scorer and Most Valuable Player in the senior national team category.

Gyan played a key role in Ghana's qualification last year to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations which was co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The 26-year-old has emerged as a key player of the Black Stars but asked for a temporary break from international football in February.

The National Player Awards is organized by the Retired National Footballers Association of Ghana and supported by the Ghana FA to award past and present international footballers.
