The South African Football Association has officially written to the Ghana FA apologizing for age-cheating levelled by their Under-17 Women's coach.

Gregory Mashilo questioned the ages of Ghana's Black Maidens after eliminating South Africa from the 2012 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup qualifiers in March.

The Ghana FA subsequently made a bitter complaint to SAFA.

A letter written by Chief Executive Robin Petersen read: "The statement made by Mr. Mashilo is not only against the good spirit of friendship and fair play but it has also caused immense embarrassment for this association.

"It is my sincere hope that the GFA will accept our apology and not allow the matter to strain our long standing friendly relations in any way."

The official apology is a bid to keep up good relations with the West African nation.
