The Football Association of Malawi has downplayed Ghana's international friendly against China next month.

The body is surprised by the decision taken by the Ghana FA after the Confederation of African Football announced the August 15 date for international friendlies had been struck out  by FIFA.

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu added that the Black Stars trip to Beijing is "merely on excursion".

''We have heard about that (Ghana's friendly) and it comes as a great surprise and there appears to be conflicting message because Caf are saying August 15 is no longer on Fifa calendar,'' Nyamilandu said.

"We are also pursuing a friendly match around the same time because we don’t want to be caught unawares."

Malawi's Flames travel to Accra to play Ghana on September 9 for the final qualifying round first leg tie.
