The talented 20-year-old midfielder has also been a target of Tottenham Hotspur who are coached by his former trainer Andre Villas-Boas.
The Portuguese manager wants to raid his former club FC Porto to sign the whiz kid who has been likened to World Footballer of the Year Lionel Messi.
Atsu spent last season on loan at Portuguese top-flight side Rio Ave where he was named the club's Player of the Year.
He scored on his international debut as a second-half substitute in Ghana's 7-0 drubbing of Lesotho in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.
