The Gambia Football Association has slapped with a US$ 500 fine for withdrawing from the 2013 African Under-17 Championship qualifiers.

The Association claims it is cash-strapped to finance the team's preparations to play Ghana in the penultimate round stage.

Also, the GFA has disbanded a team of over-aged players and now struggling to build a new side with the correct ages.

"We have withdrawn the U-17 and we have been fined US$500. We are trying to get the right U-17," Gambia Under-17 coach OB Conateh said.

According to a FIFA directive, all countries are obliged to conduct MRI tests to authenticate the ages of players for the Under-17 competition.
