Ayew out of reckoning for CAF Award
Ghana striker Andre Ayew and Senegal’s Demba Ba have dropped out of the race for the CAF Player of the Year Award.

Cote d’Ivoire stars Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure as well as Alex Song from Cameroon made the final three nominees for the continental gong, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday.

Both Drogba and Toure have previously won this prestigious accolade.

This year, Drogba inspired Chelsea to win a first-ever UEFA Champions League as well as the English FA Cup, while Yaya was instrumental in Manchester City winning the English Premier League crown after 44 years.

Africa’s best player for the outgoing year will be announced at a ceremony in Accra, Ghana on December 20.

The race for the top prize for the best Africa-based star has also been narrowed to three players – Zambia stars Rainford Kabala, Stoppila Sunzu and legendary Egypt international Mohamed Aboutrika.

Kabala and Sunzu helped Zambia to an historic Nations Cup triumph in February, while Aboutrika featured for Al Ahly as they won a record seventh CAF Champions League title last month.
