Cofie handed shock debut Ghana call-up for Malawi clash
Isaac Cofie has earned a debut Ghana call-up
He is also expected to contest for a place in the team for the friendly against Liberia on 11 September.
Cofie played under Kwesi Appiah in the Ghana U23 team which eliminated Nigeria in the final round second leg qualifier to the 2011 All Africa Games.
The 20-year-old defensive midfielder has earned a call-up after impressing last season on loan at Serie B side Sassuolo from Genoa.
He helped the side to semi-final of the promotional play-offs.
This summer, Cofie signed a contract with Serie A side Chievo Verona.
He had previously played on loan at two second-tier sides Torino and Piacenza.
Cofie moved to Italy in 2010 and made his Serie A debut for Genoa in May that year as a substitute against Bari.

He was called-up for June's double FIFA World Cup qualifiers but dropped following doubts about his eligibility.
"We sought clarification from the Burkina FA and they have confirmed that he only played for them in friendlies," Ghana coach Appiah told Ghanafa.org.
Ghana will face Malawi at the Accra Sports Stadium on 8 September.
