Essien rules out Chelsea exit
Michael Essien insists he will not leave Chelsea for playing time elsewhere
The 29-year-old is down the pecking order under manager Roberto Di Matteo since returning from a lengthy injury layoff.
Essien is yet to feature for the Blues this season - raising several concerns about his future at the club.
With numerous youthful arrivals this term, many believe the ex Olympique Lyon midfielder should leave the club in search of regular first team action elsewhere.
But Essien insists he will stay and rather fight for a place in the new-look attacking Chelsea set up.
"My intention is to stay and I’m looking forward to a new season," he said.
"I still have two more years here. I'm still here, I’m still around.”
The Ghana international adds he will not alter his game in a desperate attempt to fit into the more youthful European champions.
"I’m the sort of person who is very calm; I’m a very positive person.
"I just get on with what I have to do, what work I have to do. I’ve not changed and won’t change my style."
Chelsea have spent massively this summer bringing in players such as Edin Hazaard, Marko Marin, Oscar with the latest addition being Victor Moses from Wigan.
