The midfielder sustained the injury during last Sunday's opener at newly promoted side Stade de Reims.
Marseille's medical staff is hopeful that the player will resume training within a week since the injury is not serious.
But coach Elie Baup will not take the risk of playing the talented player as looks to next Wednesday's Europa League play-offs against Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol.
He can rely on Andre's younger brother Jordan, who is keen to get some first-team action under his belt.
The 22-year-old had surgery in May and had only returned to full fitness few weeks ago.
