Chelsea release Kalou
Ivoirian international striker, Salomon Kalou
The 26-year old Ivoirian who arrived at the Blues in 2006 has reached the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge, and has not seen it extended by the directors at Chelsea.
The 2012 European Champion with the Blues and former Feyenoord Rotterdam, Excelsior Rotterdam and ASEC d’Abidjan player competed in 167 Premier League matches, scoring 37 goals and accomplishing an impressive list of achievements in the process.
Besides the Champions League which they won this year, Salomon Kalou nicked the Première League in 2010, the FA Cup three times (2007, 2010, 2012), the League Cup in 2007 and the Charity Shield in 2009. He was also the runner-up of the League Cup and the Champions League in 2008.
Kalou was preceded by an excellent reputation with impressive statistics in his two final years at Feyenoord Rotterdam, where he sent the Dutch defences into a panic scoring 35 goals in 65 matches, yet never managed to stand out in London.
Free to sign wherever he chooses since the end of his contract, Saturday 30 June 2012, the Ivoirian international (47 caps, 15 goals) could make his destination the north of France, at Lille, a club that has been in pursuit of the player for several weeks now.
In their quest to enrol Kalou, the third-placed team of this past Ligue 1 season will no doubt be competing against Schalke, Arsenal and certain Turkish clubs also hoping to win over the European champion.
