Elite One: Union stun Canon
Renaissance faced Astres Sunday in Yaoundé
The Nassara Kamakaï (Union) thus signed the ninth in their string of victories, smothering Kpa Kum (Canon) just that much further with the fourth of the latter’s consecutive championship defeats.
Joël Babanda and teammates continue their run in the lead with 48 points to their name, and are inexorably closing in on the title at four weeks before the end, while the mythical club of the Nkolndongo, the most titled in the country, have plunged to tenth position.

Coton Sport are the only rival who have managed to keep up the pace with club president Franck Happi’s men outclassing New Stars 1-0 in Garoua, thus consolidating their second position at five points from the leader. The defeat of the promoted Douala team pushes them down to fifth place, ceding their place on the podium to Panthère du Ndé who managed a big win (3-0) in their away game against Tiko.
The arrival of coach Emmanuel Likoumba on the bench of the Nzuimento (Panthère du Ndé) seems to have benefitted Célestine Ketcha Courtes’ protégés, who claimed their second success in a row after a dark period of five games without a win.
The other on-form team of this championship is promoted Njalla Quan who won 2-0 at home against Unisport du Haut-Nkam. The Limbé men have not lost again since the sixteenth week and are now aiming for seventh place. As for Flambeau de l’Ouest, they suffered their first defeat since the start of the return leg of the Elite One and fall to sixth place.
In other week 22 matches, the San-San Boys of Sable de Batié finally enjoyed a win again - their first in the return leg – in an away game when they outclassed Scorpion de Bé 3-2, who bring up the rear in the league standings. Still threatened by relegation, Aigle Royal de la Menoua won a valuable point when they held Yong Sport Academy to a draw in Bamenda, while Renaissance de Ngoumou and Astres de Douala drew with two goals apiece at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo de Yaoundé.
