Elite One: Canon sink, Coton and Union in control

Canon vs Renaissance on Sunday at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo
Canon Sportif de Yaoundé were defeated at home by Renaissance FC de Ngoumou, while Coton Sport de Garoua and Union Sportive both capitalised by winning their matches in the 21st week.

The change of coach did not have the expected positive impact on the Kpa Kum team, who continue on their descent to the bottom of the log that started when the championship resumed.

With their captain Pierre Womé suspended, Louis Paul Mfédé’s men could do nothing to stop an enterprising Ngoumou outfit that took things into their hands from the outset.

Their first goal came as no surprise when the captain of the Blue and Whites Patrick Anaba Metogo intervened in the 32nd minute.

Renaissance doubled the score just after the hour mark through Abdoul Seini, before Onana Ndzomo managed to reduce the gap for Canon about ten minutes later.

But the Ngoumou men drove their point home in the final moments of the game and assured a victory which takes them back up to ninth position, just a point short of their victim of the day.

In the meantime in Douala, the Astres fell 0-1 to Coton Sport de Garoua at the Stade de la Réunification.  The ‘Cotonniers’ (40 points) secured the essential by avoiding being outdistanced by Union Sportive, who have struck up a frantic pace at the head of the pack.

The Nassara Kamakaï proved too strong for Aigle Royal de la Menoua in Limbé on the score of two goals to one.  Joël Babanda and his teammates thereby signed their eighth consecutive win, tallying up an impressive 45 points.

Panthère Sportive de Bangangté finally tasted victory again when they outclassed Sable de Batié 2-1, while Unisport also confirmed their return to form when they beat Tiko United on the same score in Bafang.

New Stars were held to a draw 1-1 by Njalla Quan de Limbé and thus preserve their third place, but also see Flambeau de l’Ouest hot on their tail, as well as Yong Sport Academy, who outclassed Scorpion 2-1 in Garoua.
