Panthère du Ndé secured third position when they outclassed Union 2-1 on Sunday in the final week of the Elite One.

The Wildcats of Bangangté thus join the Nassara Kamakaï, crowned champions in the 24th week, and Coton Sport on the podium of the 2012 edition of the Cameroon Championship, and will participate in the next CAF Confederation Cup.

This first defeat of Union Sportive since the start of the return leg did not really mar the fifth title of their history, awarded by the directors of the Cameroonian League of Professional Football (LFPC) and its president, Pierre Semegue, after the match.

Franck Happi (first vice-president of the LFPC) and his protégés thus entered the annals of Cameroonian football by becoming the very first champions of the era of professionalism.

At the same time, Coton Sport confirmed their position as vice-champion when they beat Njalla Quan 2-0 in Garoua.

Gabriel Haman’s men had the best defence in the championship, with only eleven goals conceded in 26 weeks.

For their part Canon Sportif de Yaoundé ended the season on a defeat 0-1 at the hands of the “San-San Boys” of Sable de Batié, who themselves enjoyed a whirlwind ending with a fifth consecutive win and an honourable seventh place in the league standings.

Kpa Kum are absent from the first half of the table with these final results, proving to be one of the biggest disappointments of the season.

Unisport were beaten 2-1 by YOSA in Bamenda and also end on a bad note, even more so given that third place on the podium was still within reach of the Flambeau de l’Ouest in the case of a victory combined with a defeat by Panthère.

The Bafang men had to be content with fourth place.

This final week of the championship also saw the uprising of the relegated teams, with the first win by Scorpion in this return leg 2-1 against the New Stars, and the very solid win of Aigle de la Menoua 3-1 against the Astres de Douala.

The New Stars, who were promoted into the elite last season, ended in a very encouraging sixth position with the best attack of the competition (40 goals scored) to boot.

Finally Tiko United, also relegated to the Elite Two, fell 1-0 to Renaissance de Ngoumou in Yaoundé.

Scorpion de Bé, Aigle Royal de la Menoua and Tiko United are relegated at the end of this season, but the Elite One will welcome Fovu club de Baham, Tonnerre Kalara Club and Douala Athletic Club next season as they enjoy promotion from the Elite Two.
