The MTN Elite One 2012 kicked-off on Saturday in Douala.

After having been postponed several times against the background of the conflict reigning amongst clubs, the newly appointed Professional League and the Ministry of Sports, the Cameroon Championship version 2012 has finally begun.

The inaugural match saw Union de Douala come face-to-face with Tiko United at the Stade de la Réunification.

The President of the LFP, General Pierre Semengue, signalled kick-off in the company of a host of prestigious guests including a number of former stars of Cameroonian football.

To add to the excitement, Bonaventure Djonkep’s men opened the score on the first minute through striker Edoa Nga!

Union de Douala added a second at the 38th minute through former Cotonsport player, Joel Babanda.

Tiko United then had the opportunity to come to the party three minutes later, but Nkafu Chapajong missed his penalty.

The intensity of the encounter proceeded to drop considerably with both teams showing a clear lack of physical condition.

By the end of the clash, the scoreboard was still on the 2-0 mark in favour of Union de Douala.  All the other matches of Day 1 will take place on Sunday 22 January.
