Unisport defeated in Douala

Unisport du Haut-Nkam were defeated for the first time this season by New Star on Wednesday at the Stade de la Réunification in Douala.

Alexandre Belinga’s men had apparently not recuperated sufficiently following their successful away game in Abidjan, in the preliminary round of the Confederation Cup.

This delayed encounter on day 5 of the MTN Elite One took off guns blazing with Eboa Mbock Mbondjo from the promoted club from the capital opening the score at the 6th minute.

President Faustin Domkeu’s men doubled the score just over ten minutes later, on a superb Ebah Tobie lob.

A third goal from a Thierry Makon Nloga penalty before half-time buried the Flambeau de l’Ouest’s hopes, although they managed to save face in the second half thanks to Ngando Mbida, who finished the job after New Star keeper Janvier Mbarga denied Lobe Lembe’s attempt from the penalty spot.

The other club competing in the Confederation Cup, Union Sportive de Douala, was also outclassed for the first time this season by Sable de Batié on the score of 2-0.

Still unbeaten this season, Sable climb up to 5th position in the league standings, while the two former co-leaders, Unisport and Union maintain their spots on the podium behind the current champion Coton Sport de Garoua.

But beware the Panthère du Ndé, lying in wait in 4th position with a game in hand.  In the case of a victory against Les Astres, they could be calling the shots…
