Coton Sport take control
This is the fourth defeat in five encounters
for the Moungo club, which has only one point more than the duo occupying the
bottom of the table.
The other noteworthy point about Day 5 is that
it saw Canon’s first victory of the season. The club under the new leadership of
Souleymanou Aboubakar beat Tiko United 2-1 at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in
Yaoundé.
But it was Ernest Agbor’s protégés who opened
the score, through Nougoum Ngassam just after the half hour mark.
“Kpa Kum” trailed 1-0 at the break, but reacted
in the second half by first equalising on a controversial penalty by Atouba
Yazid at the 49th minute, then by taking a definite advantage less
than 10 minutes later thanks to Joël Kofana.
The club hailing from Yaoundé thus climb back
up to 10th position, while Tiko, who have not yet garnered a single win
this season, vegetate at the bottom of the log.
Not a single goal was scored in Sunday’s two
other encounters.
Aigle de la Menoua were held to a draw at home
in Dschang by Njalla Quan, while Renaissance managed to garner a little point
during their away game in Bamenda against YOSA.
Ngoumou’s men are not looking any better at the
bottom of the league standings alongside Tiko United.
Three Day 5 matches were postponed due to
Unisport, Union de Douala and Astres’ participation in continental competitions.
