Canon hopes dashed in Yaoundé

Canon Sportif de Yaoundé had their hopes dashed at home on Sunday against Njalla Quan 1-4, in the 19th week of the Elite One.

There are clearly problems within the club of Canon-Kpa-kum, since the player strikes because of outstanding salaries that took place last week.  And as a result of this internal conflict, their sports results have taken a dive.

After the draw conceded against Tiko United (1-1) in the 18th week, Souleymanou Aboubacar’s men had a proper wake-up call on Sunday against Njalla Quan at home at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo.

The Canonniers maintain their seventh position on the log, but five points seperate them from the podium.

In the meantime, the leaders Union de Douala made an impact in Bamenda when they beat Yong Sport Academy 2-1.

With the Académiciens in the lead at the half-hour mark, President Franck Happy’s men found what they needed to come back into the game with a goal by Joel Babanda, then to take the lead at the end of the encounter through Agada.

The Nassara Kamakaï thereby string together their sixth consecutive success and enjoy a five-point lead on the runner-up, Coton Sport.

The Garoua men secured the essential when they beat Aigle de la Menoua and maintain their second place ahead of an ambitious New Stars team, who reached the top three following their win 1-0 against Panthère du Ndé at the Stade de la Réunification.

Célestine Ketcha Courtes’ protégés have not won again since the fifteenth week and slide down to fourth position.

After five consecutive draws, the Astres finally tasted victory again when they outclassed Tiko United 2-1 in Douala.

The Brésiliens de Bépanda are only one point behind Canon in eighth position.

Finally Unisport held Sable de Batié to a goalless draw, thereby stringing together their fifth consecutive draw, while Scorpion suffered another defeat in Garoua against Renaissance 1-2 and are now more than ever before threatened by relegation.
