Coton Sport to bounce back in northern derby
The men from Garoua who managed a victory, a draw and two defeats so far in the return leg of the championship, will attempt to make a fresh start this weekend against the team bringing up the rear.
Following the defeat (2-1) last Sunday in Bamenda against Young Sport Academy, Gabriel Hamam and his team are already off to a good start before the regional derby.
“We have a very good state of mind, the players are calm and we hope to win this match that will be very important to us for the rest,” confided the stand-in coach of the Cotonculteurs telephonically.
However, on the subject of the current lack of form of the Septentrion team, Robert Boivin’s successor does not to talk about a negative spiral, “because in the championship you always want to be champion, we are still in the race for the Cameroon Cup. And we think that everything will go back to the way it was.”
As for the leaders, Union Sportive de Douala - who have strung together a series of four consecutive victories - they host Sable de Batié at the Stade de la Réunification.
The Nassaras will hope to comfort their lead in front of their public against a Sable team who have just suffered two back-to-back defeats and who have still not won a game in the return leg of the championship.
Canon Sportif de Yaoundé, who tasted victory again last Sunday against Panthère Sportive du Ndé, will play away against Tiko United to continue their good form.
Kpa Kum are currently placed seventh and could close in on the leading trio in the case of a win.
After two consecutive defeats, Panthère du Ndé will do their best to make a recovery at home in Bangangté against Astres, who have still not succeeded in bagging a win in the return leg (four consecutive draws); just like Renaissance de Ngoumou in Yaoundé against the astonishing runner-up, Yong Sport Academy, after the team from the central region were outclassed by Coton Sport and Union de Douala.
One of the most exciting fixtures of this Week 18 will see Unisport du Haut-Nkam and New Stars come to blows in Bafang.
Flambeau de l’ouest have strung together three consecutive draws in their latest matches, and must react quickly if they do not want to see the leaders slip permanently out of reach. But this will be no small task against the best attack of the Elite One, who are still unbeaten in the return leg.
Finally the derby between the promoted teams will take place in Limbé where Njalla Quan will host Aigle Royal de la Menoua, who are both in desperate need of points.
