Coton leader at halfway mark

Coton Sport start the second half of Cameroon’s Elite One alone at the top, despite their draw against Njalla Quan on Sunday.

Although they were quickly reduced to ten at the Stade de Limbé, Robert Boivin’s men managed a draw against the promoted team from the south-west, who have strung together a series of nine encounters without a victory and remain stuck in second-last place.

Union Sportive de Douala could have taken advantage of this slight blow to the Cotonculteurs, but the Nassara Kamakai were defeated away in Bangangté 1-0 by Panthère du Ndé, who were able to bounce back quickly after their defeat in their away game against Renaissance.

So Célestine Ketcha Courtes’ protégés have grabbed second place just one point behind the men from Garoua, while Bonaventure Djonkep’s team slide into third place, only leading Yong Sport Academy and Canon Sportif de Yaoundé on goal difference.

Doumbé Bosso’s YOSA held Unisport du Haut-Nkam to a draw 0-0 in Bafang and now have a string of seven clashes without a single defeat behind their name, while Kpa Kum won a valuable victory against Sable de Batié in Mbouda 1-0.

It is Emmanuel Likoumba’s men’s fourth consecutive match without a win, a team who have let the Astres and New Star, both victorious this weekend, escape.

The Brésiliens de Bépanda have finally tasted victory again following two defeats and three draws, by beating Aigle de la Menoua 1-0.

They are now lying two points behind sixth-placed Unisport on a par with New Star, who thrashed Scorpion 5-0 at the Stade de la Réunification.

Faustin Domkeu’s work force have also not had a win for a while, but reminded their fans why they have the best attack in the championship on Sunday with two braces by Ebah Tobie and Thierry Makon and a goal by Tonye Agbe.

And finally Tiko United put an end to Renaissance de Ngoumou’s fine series, remaining in charge on home soil thanks to Ayuk Mbong’s goal just after half an hour of play.
