Heartland will make history as the first Nigerian club to win the CAF Confederation Cup next year, officials have promised.

Dolphin played the final of the continental second-tier competition in 2005, while Bayelsa United and Sunshine Stars have reached the semi-finals thus far as the Confederation Cup has eluded Nigerian clubs since it rolled out in 2004.

But now Heartland team manager Promise Nwachukwu told MTNFootball.com ‘The Naze Millionaires’, are not in the competition to complete the numbers, but to win the continental trophy for the first time for Nigeria.

“It is not as if I am boasting but only stating the fact. We are a complete side from management to the technical and players on parade so, I don’t see us not being crowned the next CAF Confederation Cup winners,” Nwachukwu predicted.

“It is all about doing the right thing at the right time. Preparing well and with the grace of God and the right calibre of players in our fold, nothing is going to stop us from winning that trophy.

“We are not new to continental football as we narrowly lost the final game of Champions League some seasons ago. So, we shall be building on lessons learnt from that to take us to our desired target next year.

“Thank God, we have all the right players for the right position to enhance our chances. It is not going to be an easy task but we are more than prepared to make a name for ourselves and the nation,” added the top team official.

The 2011 Nigeria Federation Cup winners, who are making their debut in the Confederation Cup, have made serious efforts to lure central defender Ike ThankGod back to the club, while they are also shopping for some tested players to fortify the squad ahead of the new season.
