Zamalek face difficult away day
Egyptian side Zamalek take their narrow 1-0 advantage over DR Congo outfit AS Vita Club to the return leg in Kinshasa this weekend.
Zamalek should have led by a greater margin, but wasted a number of guilt-edged opportunities to increase their lead in Alexandria.
The only goal of that game was a stunning strike from Ahmed Gaafar midway through the second half.
The result could have been even better for the Congolese as midfielder Nzinga Luvumbu smashed his shot against the crossbar early on
Both of these teams are former champions of this event, but one will fall by the wayside.
Zamalek have had the greater pedigree in recent years, though the upheaval in domestic football in their country has done little to improve their recent form.
The winner of this tie will face either Ethiopian side St George or Mali’s Djibola in the next round. St George lead 2-0 from their home leg.
