Sunshine fortify squad for Champions League
Sunday Emmanuel back at Sunshine
Midfielder Emmanuel has rejoined Sunshine after a short stint at Enyimba and another experienced campaigner Cletus Itodo has also returned to the fold and may now be registered for the Champions League.
Sunshine top official Mike Idoko disclosed they are currently discussing with other clubs to sign more players for the money-spinning group phase of the annual club competition.
"We are definitely going to beef up the team ahead of the group stage. We have discovered areas that need amendment and we have identified the players who could fit into the team from other teams,” Idoko told MTNFootball.com
“We are negotiating with them and when we agree on terms it will be made public."
However, former Barcelona of Spain defender Gbenga Okunowo, who was registered for the tournament, has since left the Akure club.
Sunshine begin their quest to be African champions on Saturday, July 7 in Ijebu-Ode, when they host defending champions Esperance of Tunisia.
The other teams in Group A are ASO Chlef from Algeria and Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia.
"We are feeling the heat as the only Nigerian club left on the continent, we are under pressure to do well because all eyes are on us. I am therefore calling on Nigerians to support Sunshine Stars because we are representing the country,” implored Idoko, whose team reached the semi-finals of last year's CAF Confederation Cup at first attempt.
