Why NPL not the best
Newly signed winger John Owoeri
and Mendrano Tamen will miss Saturday’s CAF Champions League Group A tie away at
Etoile du Sahel in Tunisia.
The Cameroonian midfielder Mendrano failed to make the squad due to hamstring injury he sustained in the opening group game against Tunisian champions Esperance in Ijebu-Ode.
Speaking with MTNFootball.com, Mendrano expressed his disappointment for not making the squad, but said he believes the team will do the job without him in Sousse.
"It is a pity I am out of the game because I am not fit to do so. I only started jogging yesterday (Tuesday). I would have loved to be there to contribute my quota, but I have confidence in my team mates who will play the game to do the job against Etoile."
Former Enyimba and Heartland forward Owoeri, who was a late addition to the Akure club, was also not on the squad to Tunisia.
In the meantime, the team's top scorer Dele Olorundare, who was a second-half substitute against Esperance, said he hopes to get goals that will renew hope of his club of going past the group stage of the competition.
"We have resolved to beat Etoile. We know it won't be easy, but we are ready for the battle,” the former Nasarawa United striker declared.
“I am looking forward to getting goals that will give us victory there. That is what we are going for, we can do it."
Sunshine Stars departed Lagos on Wednesday morning for the coastal city of Sousse in Tunisia through Morocco.
