Nigeria’s Sunshine Stars have signed ex-Feyenoord of Holland winger John Owoeri to boost their CAF Champions League campaign.

The former Heartland, Enyimba and Ismaila of Egypt star already made his Sunshine debut in a 2-1 Akure derby win over city rivals Rising Stars on Wednesday.

Recently the former youth international failed to join the Major League Soccer (MLS) after trials with several clubs, while his stint with Ismaila was controversial and short-lived.

He may now make his CAF Champions debut for Sunshine against Etoile du Sahel in Sousse next weekend after the Akure club stumbled in their opening Group A tie by losing 2-0 at home to champions Esperance also of Tunisia.

The experience and daring runs of the 25-year-old winger are therefore expected to now boost the team.

Another experienced campaigner, midfielder Cletus Itodo, who rejoined the team in the last transfer window, cannot feature for Sunshine in the CAF Champions League because he is cup-tied having featured for Dolphin in same competition.

Midfielder Sunday Emmanuel, who also rejoined the team from Enyimba, has also been registered for the Champions League and featured against Esperance on Sunday.
