Best AFCON goal: Mba or Msakni?
The debate over the finest goal of the 2103 African Cup of Nations rages on with some picking Nigeria midfielder Sunday Mba’s classic goal against Ivory Coast with some choosing Tunisia star Youssef Msakni’s late stunner in their match against arch rivals Algeria.
In fact for Mba his two goals in this tournament were both contenders for the Goal of the Tournament award having scored another beauty that gave the Super Eagles their 1-0 win over Burkina Faso to win the title.
But the style with which he scored in the match against Ivory Coast makes that strike stand out from the goal in the game against the Stallions.
With the match edging towards extra-time with the score still 1-1, the home-based player scored an outstanding goal from outside the area after a mazy run.
Mba, who plays for Warri Wolves, advertised the intelligence that his surname suggest by slaloming past three Ivorian defenders before hitting a shot that deflected off the body of Souleyman Bamba before looping over goalkeeper Boubacar Barry to send Nigeria into the last four.

Under similar circumstances, Msakni’s brilliant last-gasp stunner gave Tunisia a 1-0 victory in Group D match against Algeria late in the game.
The Qatar-based midfielder lit up an otherwise tight affair with a touch of class just as the game entered four minutes of injury time, curling home an unstoppable 25-yard effort into the top corner.
The Lekhwiya player wrong-footed Algeria defender Khaled Lemmouchia before brilliantly curling his long-range effort into the top right corner, giving goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi no chance.
The time of the goal, the style and the distance from where Msakni struck the ball makes his goal stand out from Mba’s equally classy effort.
