Ivory Coast out to add to Algeria’s woes
The Elephants will look to maintain their winning streak when they face Algeria
The Elephants started the competition with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Togo before stepping up a gear to register a solid 3-0 win over Tunisia.
Sabri Lamouchi’s side are guaranteed to finish on top of Group D irrespective of the outcome of the match between Togo and Tunisia, who will battle it out for second place at the Mbombela Stadium.
Nonetheless, the Ivorians will look to replicate their form from the 2012 edition where they maintained a perfect record en route to the final, where they eventually lost to Zambia on penalties.
Algeria on the other hand have it all to do as they are still searching for their first goal and first point in the tournament.
The Fennec Foxes have looked good on the ball but have nothing to show for it after losing their opening game to Tunisia 1-0 before a 2-0 loss to Togo confirmed their early exit.
However, attacking midfielder Adlene Guedioura says his team cannot be faulted for the way they have played so far and will be keen to make a statement before bowing out of the competition.
"The only thing you can reproach us for is not scoring," Guedioura told BBC Sport.
"You can't reproach us for our competitiveness, our ambition, our style of play.
"We respect football and we respect our country. We're going to try to beat Ivory Coast.
"It's not good to finish with three defeats, because we deserve more than to lose the first two games.”
Algeria will draw inspiration from their last meeting in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations where they scored late to tie the match at 2-2 before netting in extra time to secure a 3-2 win.
Lamouchi has already fiddled with his squad against Tunisia, leaving players like Kolo Toure and Didier Drogba out of the starting lineup, and is likely to make more changes for this game.
Vahid Halihodzic is also expected to make some changes to his squad in order to give unused players a chance to get valuable experience in preparation for their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
