Zambia axe clubless Chintu from final squad
Chintu - Not going to the AFCON
Fears over Zambia poor run
Clubless defender Kampamba Chintu has failed to make Zambia final 23-man
squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 32-year-old veteran of four Africa Cup finals has been dropped together with two other home-based players.
Chintu is a veteran of the 2000, 2008, 2010 and 2012 Africa Cups.
He was also the last man standing in the Zambia setup from the class of 99 that took part in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Nigeria.
Chintu is currently without a club after he was released by South Africa PSL club Bidwest Wits last August.
And Zanaco defender Salulani Phiri and Red Arrows midfielder Shadireck Malambo also failed to make the final cut.
However, the big news is 19-year-old Power Dynamos midfield sensation and 2012 Zambia player of the year Mukuka Mhlanga is set for his Africa Cup debut.
Striker Jacob Mulenga of Dutch club FC Utrecht and midfielder William Njobvu from Israel side Hapoel Be’er Sheva are in the team after missing the 2012 finals due to injury.
Also in is FC Porto defender Emmanuel Mbola returns to the competition for the first time since 2010.
Mbola missed the 2012 tournament after serving a FIFA ban for his part in a transfer row between TP Mazembe who currently own his signature and his ex-club Pyunik Yerevan of Armenia.
