The Super Eagles first and only training in Liberia was cut short Friday night after the host FA refused to turn on the floodlights.

The Eagles trained at the match venue of Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia for only an hour after which it turned dark and they then needed the floodlights to continue their work out.

“It was a deliberate because the Liberia FA promised to ensure the floodlights were on for the Eagles to train,” accused Nigerian journalist Wale Ajayi, who travelled with the Eagles to Liberia.

“The Eagles came out to train at 6pm Liberian time, which is kick-off time for the match, as agreed but after about an hour everywhere went pitch dark, but the FA refused to turn on the floodlights.”

All 22 players trained with Chelsea new signing Victor Moses by far the most popular Nigeria player in Liberia.

“Chelsea are a very popular club in Liberia and by extension Victor Moses has been the most talked about Eagles star here,” Ajayi reported.

“Some of the fans told us that had another Chelsea player, Mikel Obi, come for this game, they would have had to close down the stadium because of the fans.”

The team were satisfied with the accommodation provided by their hosts and after they had checked into their rooms, Keshi led the team to the Nigerian Embassy for breakfast.

The team returned to the hotel for lunch at 2.30pm Nigerian time.

Indications also emerged that the Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will lead the cheer for the Lone Star on Saturday.  The Liberian number one citizen is presently in Kaduna, Nigeria, for the Nigeria Defence Academy graduation ceremony but told the Nigerian ambassador that she will be back in time for the game.

Nigerians here in Monrovia, have also mobilised to support the Eagles. About 2000 Nigerians are now expected at the 30,000-capacity SKD Sports arena.
