Ambrose: We will miss Yobo
Efe Ambrose - Eagles and Glasgow Celtic defender
Nigeria vs Liberia
Efe Ambrose has admitted Joseph Yobo's leadership will be missed against Liberia but
all the same the Eagles will see off the visitors.
The ex-Ashdod of Israel star told MNTFootball.com the Eagles are ready for battle and has asked Nigerians to support the team.
He also spoke about his recent exploits with his new club Celtic in Scotland.
The interview:
MTNFootball.com: You played the first leg of this qualifier in Monrovia. How would you describe the Lone star of Liberia?
AMBROSE: They are a good side no doubt, they played well and that was why they were able to score two goals, but we did well with 2-2 draw and we at an advantage playing at home to grab the ticket at their expense.
Liberia are a free-scoring side. Do you think Eagles defence line could stop them this time around?
Why not? That is our job and we are ready to do our best to prevent them from getting into our vital area not to talk of getting goals.
Even in the absence of Captain Joseph Yobo?
Well, as for me yes because we have capable players who can stop them from getting goals. Though we are going to miss his leadership on the pitch, but we will do well in his absence.
What are you expecting from Nigerians on Saturday?
We just need their prayers and support.
What should Nigerians expect from the team?
Good football and total victory. We are ready for the battle and we will secure the Nations Cup ticket.
How would you describe your reception at Celtic?
Wow! It was wonderful and lovely. I was warmly welcomed by the officials, my team mates and the fans. I am really at home in Celtic.
Your team defeated Spartak in Moscow in a UEFA Champions League. What would you credit to this big result?
We went there with the determination to win and we put in our best and this paid off.
What do you think that result will do to your team?
It give us confident that we can go all the way.
How are you looking forward to the next Champions League game against Barcelona?
We are preparing very hard for it and we won't lose focus when the time comes.
This is your first experience in UEFA Champions League, how has it been?
So far so good it has been wonderful, it has been my long-term dream. It is now a reality.
What is your target in this competition?
That is to go as far as possible. Winning the trophy won't be bad at all.
You have a Nigeria team mate, Rabiu Ibrahim, how is your relationship?
Cordial, we are just like brothers.
What do you miss about Ashdod?
The people over there are wonderful. I missed them all but I have found another home at Celtic as well.
Thank for your time.
It’s always my pleasure.
