MTNFootball.com reviews the performances of Nigeria stars abroad over the weekend ahead of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Who is hot?

Ike Uche:
Super Eagles top scorer in the AFCON qualifiers scored a brace for his Spanish Segunda division team Villarreal in a 3-0 win at Racing Santander.

Ahmed Musa: The former VVV Venlo star scored his eighth league goal as he posted another man-of-the-match display for CSKA Moscow in a 3-0 win over Amkar Perm. Who can now bet against him from being at South Africa 2013?

Obafemi Martins: ‘Obagoal’ again delivered for Levante in a 2-0 win over hosts Deportivo La Coruna. This performance should get Keshi to give him another chance as he bombed in the Venezuela warm-up.

Emmanuel Emenike: The powerful striker returned to action and played all 90 minutes as his club Spartak Moscow drew 1-1 at Volga. But will this all-action striker now stay fit till the AFCON?

Ambrose Efe: He was rock-solid in the defence of Celtic as they beat Aberdeen 2-0 away. Ambrose played all 90 minutes, posting another competent display.

Osaze Odemwingie: He stunned Chelsea with a second-half winner for West Brom and made a big statement he wishes to reclaim his place in the Eagles sooner rather than later.

Mikel Obi: He started for Chelsea as usual against West Brom before he was replaced in the 80th minute as Chelsea tried to salvage a result.

Victor Moses: He started for Chelsea for the second time at West Brom and lasted the entire duration of the match. He is set for his Nations Cup debut in South Africa.

Joseph Yobo: Eagles skipper was commanding in the heart of the Fenerbahce defence as he saw action for 90 minutes in a 1-1 away draw at Eskisehirspor. In South Africa, he is expected to again stabilise a back four that has come under criticisms after a shaky performance against Venezuela last week.

Taye Taiwo: He was back after serving out a three-match ban as his Ukrainian club Dynamo Kiev beat Metalur Donetsk 1-0. However, despite appearing to have got his career back on track, he is most likely to be overlooked for the Nations Cup as he has not been picked by Keshi since a disastrous showing against Rwanda in Kigali in February.

Who is not?

Onyekachi Apam: Rennes recorded a big 2-1 win over hosts and league leaders PSG in France, but the defender was an unused substitute.

Ekigho Ehiosun: He was again missing in action for his Turkish team Genclerbirligi. He is not looking good to be on the flight to South Africa.

Victor Anichebe: The big striker failed a late fitness test as his team Everton lost 2-1 at Reading. It will be something of a miracle if he is considered for a place on the squad to South Africa.

Brown Ideye: The former Sochaux striker was not listed by Dynamo Kiev in their 1-0 win over Metalur Donetsk.

Ogenyi Onazi: He was an unused substitute for Lazio in a goalless draw at Juventus. His performances so far for Eagles have been encouraging and that should give him a head start in the big fight to be on the final squad for the AFCON.

Raheem Lawal: He did not feature for Adana Demirspor in 3-0 home loss to 1461 Trabzon, who paraded Chikeluba Ofoedu.

John Utaka: The AFCON chances of the experienced striker are gradually fading after he was not lined up by French Ligue 1 champions Montpellier at the weekend.

Chinedu Obasi: Returned to the Schalke 04 subs’ bench but that was the closest he came to playing after a long absence.
