Zambia target win over co-hosts Eq.Guinea
Zambia said they want to win Group A of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations by beating co-hosts and leaders Equatorial Guinea Sunday in Malabo.
Second-placed Zambia, on four points, must beat Group A leaders Equatorial Guinea on six points to top the pool and return to Bata to play in the quarterfinals.
A draw though would be enough for Zambia to join Equatorial Guinea in the last eight.
Coach Herve Renard said his top priority is to win on Sunday and so finish top of the group.
Ambitious Zambia were forced to use only half the training pitch in Malabo Friday night due to poor lighting just hours after landing on the Island from mainland Equatorial Guinea.
Renard took the team for an hour and a half workout at the match venue of Estadio de Malabo training ground just after 20:00 South African time.
The training facility right next to the main stadium is not fitted with flood lights for night training.
However, it was business as usual for a lively Chipolopolo who trained without any fuss on one part of the pitch that had some modest light emanating from the adjacent buildings.
Renard declined to give any post-training interviews although he is expected to hold his final pre-match press briefing at 12:00 SA time on Saturday at the exclusive Hotel Sofitel Sipopo Malabo, where the team are booked.
The Zambia team flew into Malabo on Friday afternoon ahead of their final Group A showdown against co-hosts Equatorial Guinea Sunday at Estadio de Malabo.
Renard and this team arrived in Malabo at 15:20 South African time after taking a 30 minute flight across the Bright of Biafra from Bata.
The team were welcomed at the Malabo Airport by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya before driving to the Sipopo Hotel.
