Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has opted to pick a record 11 players from the NPL for next Wednesday’s 2013 Nations Cup qualifier in Rwanda.

Keshi was originally to select nine players from the domestic league for the trip to Kigali, but officials said he has been most impressed with the quality and commitment of the players and so the two additional slots.

“By increasing the number of places on his squad for the players from the domestic league, it shows the confidence the coach has in these players,” said Nigeria Football Federation general secretary, Musa Amadu.

The home-based Eagles have been unbeaten in two international friendlies, holding 2012 Nations Cup-bound Angola to a 0-0 draw in Abuja and beating Liberia 2-0 in Monrovia.

Last week, Keshi named 11 foreign-based professionals for the qualifier in Rwanda.

The Eagles will therefore fly out to Abuja Monday with a 22-man squad.

They will play the match on Wednesday afternoon and return same day to Nigeria.
