South Africa-based Zambia defender Kampamba Chintu is in a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal clash against Sudan.

Chintu, who features for PSL outfit Bidvest Wits, has sat out training since Wednesday when the team held their first full training session at Machinda Stadium 30 kilometres outside Bata after the team flew in from Malabo on Tuesday.

"Chintu has a problem with his tendon," disclosed Zambia coach Herve Renard.

"It is better for him to rest for 48 hours and we will see if he will be able to be part of the team."

Chintu has yet to play a match at the Nations Cup for Zambia after three games heading into this Saturday’s quarterfinal clash against Sudan in Bata.

Both Sudan and Zambia have beaten most expectations by reaching the last eight of the 2012 Nations Cup.

Sudan last reached this stage of the competition, when they won the championship in 1979, while Zambia are again qualified for the quarterfinals after they did so with the same coach Herve Renard at Angola 2010.
