Gilberto back to his roots
Angolan winger Gilberto is set to return to
his roots as he continues discussions with his old club Petro Atletico for a
return to the GiraBola.
The 30-year-old is likely to move back to
Luanda after the African Nations Cup finals in South Africa, where he is one of
seven based players in the Palancas
Negras’ squad.
Gilberto has spent the last year at Cypriot
club AEL Limassol after a similar spell in Belgium with Lierse.
But his eight years at Cairo giants Al Ahli
were the highlights of a career that began as a 16-year-old international
debutant against South Africa in an African Nations Cup qualifier.
He won the African Champions League with
the Egyptian club and also participated at the FIFA Club World Cup.
His negotiations, according to sources,
come with the blessing of his Cypriot club, even though his contract still has
six months to run in Europe.
His former Al Ahli teammate Flavio is also
set to play for Petro in the new season.
