Ethiopia snub ex-Pirates striker
Fikru Teferra - Left out
Ethiopia coach Bishaw Sewnet has drafted five players based abroad with Teffera, who also starred for Supersport United, the biggest omission.
Teffera, who now features for Vietnamese club Thanh Hoa, is not part of the team after playing for Ethiopia at the 2012 CECAFA Cup where the team reached the quarterfinals in Uganda.
Sewnet has instead called up key striker Saladin Said of Egyptian club Waldi Gelda and Sweden-based player Sala Yusef.
Germany-based Dawit Bisha as well as two USA-based players, Faud Ibrahim and Abdi Welimehamed, complete the five foreign call-ups.
Their inclusion brings to 31 the players in Ethiopia’s provisional squad who are currently heading into their third week of training camp in Addis Ababa.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia host Niger in a warm-up match on December 30 in Addis Ababa.
The Walia Antelopes will later host Togo on January 3, before flying out to the Persian Gulf to face Tunisia in Qatar on January 7.
The 1962 champions also have two yet to be confirmed January dates away to Tanzania and Morocco.
Ethiopia will at next month’s AFCON in South Africa be marking their first tournament appearance since 1982.
