African Ballon d’Or: Yaya vs Drogba
Ivoirians Didier Drogba and Yaya Touré
Manchester City and the Elephants’ midfielder Yaya Touré, the 2011 winner, is still in the running for his second consecutive title and will be competing against his national team captain Didier Drogba and Cameroonian Alexandre Song.
Playmaker for the Citizens with whom he is the current English champion, the younger of the Touré brothers will have a tough job bagging the trophy for a second year running, because his compatriot managed to dazzle Africa and Europe during this year, 2012.
Didier Drogba was the architect behind the success of Chelsea in the FA Cup and the Champions League before his exile to China, and also led Côte d’Ivoire to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations 2012 and to qualification for the 2013 edition, following an epic double confrontation with Senegal.
Following a long season with Arsenal, the third contender Alexandre Song made the big move to Catalonia, to FC Barcelona. But Cameroon’s absence from the Afcon 2012 and 2013 could prove to be a serious handicap for the Indomitable Lions’ defensive midfielder’s chances of success.
