Niger’s Ide for Bafana clash
August 24, 2010
Kano Pillars man-mountain central defender Harouna Ide will join up Wednesday with Mena of Niger ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Bafana Bafana next month.
“I will join my national team on Wednesday morning from Kano,” the towering defender informed MTNFootball.com
Ide is in his fourth year at Kano Pillars. He has also played for Lobi Stars of Makurdi, ASFAN of Niamey as well as Djoliba of Mali.
Ide will be one of a dozen overseas-based professionals called up for Niger’s opening Group G match against South Africa on September 4.
Other foreign Niger pros include Ouwo Maazou of AS Monaco, Alhassane Dante Issoufou, who stars for FUS in Morocco, as well as the Cotonsport of Cameroon goalkeepers, Kassaly Daouda and Rabo Saminou.
Saminou was until recently with Nigerian champions Enyimba.
The Mena, whose home-based team eliminated Nigeria from next year’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN), are handled by local coach, Harouna Doula.
Niger are drawn in a qualifying group that also includes defending champions Egypt and Sierra Leone.
