Cameroon played some fantastic football as they won through to the final of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, but ultimately fell at the final hurdle as they lost 1-0 to Egypt in the decider.

The Indomitable Lions started the campaign in disastrous fashion losing to the selfsame Egyptians 4-2 in Group C, with Samuel Eto'o netting both their goals, the second from the penalty-spot.

At that stage it looked as though Otto Pfister's side were anything but prospective champions, but they bounced back with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Zambia.

Goals from Geremi, Joseph-Desire Job (two), Achille Emana and Eto'o (another penalty), put them back in contention in the pool, and they followed it up with an equally impressive result to seal a place in the quarterfinals.

The 3-0 success over Sudan was achieved with goals from Eto'o (two, one penalty) and a Mohammed Khider own goal.

Cameroon needed extra time to see off the challenge of Tunisia in the quarterfinals, with a brace of goals from Stephane Mbia and one from Geremi, while a lone goal from Alain N'Kong saw off hosts Ghana in the semis.

A mistake from veteran Rigobert Song allowed Mohamed Aboutrika to steal in and score in the final, and the usually free-scoring Cameroon side were blunted in front of goal.
