live commentary
– Good evening and welcome to live coverage of the Africa Cup of Nations Group D match between Botswana and Guinea from Franceville in Gabon.
– It’s a fight for survival between these two teams after they both lost their opening games. Defeat for either today would effectively end their quarterfinal hopes.
– Syli Nacional have a pretty good Nations Cup record in recent years, so they will be favourites to pick up the three points today.
– However, the Zebras put up a great fight against giants Ghana in their first match and will be determined to pick up a win in their AFCON debut.
– Here are the line-ups...
– Botswana: Modiri Marumo; Tshepo Motlhabankwe, Ndiapo Letsholathebe, Musa Ohilwe, Mopati Thuma, Ofentse Nato, Dipsy Selolwane, Pontsho Moloi, Mogogi Gabonamong, Phenyo Mongala, Jerome Ramatlhakwana
– Guinea: Naby Yattara; Thierno Bah, Dianbobo Balde, Kamil Zayatte, Ibrahima Diallo, Pascal Feindouno, Sadio Diallo, Mamadou Bah, Abdoul Camara, Ibrahima Traore, Ismael Bangoura
1’ – We are underway in Franceville! Botswana wear their light-blue strip, Guinea are in a kit of red, yellow and green.
2’ – The first corner of the game goes the way of Guinea, but the West Africans can’t make anything of it.
4’ – Botswana’s first attack sees Phenyo Mongala play in a decent cross from the right, but Naby Yattara allows it to pass behind for a goal kick.
6’ – Jerome Ramatlhakwana with a good turn and shot in the penalty area but it’s straight at Naby Yattara, who holds on.
8’ – It’s been a pretty tame opening few minutes to this game, both teams are still looking to find a rhythm.
9’ – Naby Yattara with a brave challenge at the feet of Pontsho Moloi after a long ball from Botswana almost puts the attacker in on goal.
10’ – Both players receive a bit of treatment after the collision but there’s no lasting damage.
11’ – Guinea try to work a clever quick free kick but it only ends up in the hands of goalkeeper Modiri Marumo.
13’ – Ismael Bangoura tries a quick turn on the edge of the box but loses possession. It’s not quite happening for either side’s attack.
14’ – Mamadou Bah with a long range shot... good save Modiri Marumo, he pushes the effort away for a corner!
15’ – Sadio Diallo (Guinea) scores!
– Botswana can’t clear their lines from a corner kick, Ibrahima Traore pulls the ball back from the by-line and Sadio Diallo arrives late to turn the ball home from close range!
17’ – It’s exactly the start Guinea would have wanted, getting a goal inside the opening quarter hour. And here’s a chance for a second... but no, Ismael Bangoura pulls his shot wide of the target.
19’ – It’s all Guinea at the moment. They’ll make it 2-0 before long if they keep up this pressure...
20’ – Ibrahima Traore with a long range shot but it’s over the crossbar.
21’ – Naby Yattara (Guinea) is cautioned.
– Penalty Botswana, out of nowhere! Naby Yattara trips Jerome Ramatlhakwana in the box after a poor back-pass from Dianbobo Balde!
22’ – Dipsy Selolwane takes the penalty but it’s saved by Naby Yattara! But the referee wants it taken again, the goalkeeper was too far off his line!
22’ – Kamil Zayatte (Guinea) is cautioned.
23’ – Dipsy Selolwane (Botswana) scores!
– Dipsy Selolwane takes the penalty again and this time he buries it in the top corner! It's 1-1!
25’ – That equalising goal really came out of nowhere! Guinea coach Michel Dussuyer will be furious with his team for giving away their advantage.
26’ – Ibrahima Traore with another shooting chance but again he’s well off target.
27’ – Sadio Diallo (Guinea) scores!
– Abdoul Camara tricks his way to the left by-line, pulls a good pass back, and again Sadio Diallo is there to fire home from close range!
28’ – Three goals inside the opening half hour, who saw that coming?
29’ – Tshepo Mothlabankwe (Botswana) is cautioned.
30’ – So, Guinea back in front. It didn’t take them long to put Botswana’s equaliser behind them did it?
31’ – Jerome Ramatlhakwana with a long range shot but it’s well blocked by the Guinea backline.
33’ – Naby Yattara with some brave goalkeeping as he beats Jerome Ramatlhakwana to a long ball with a sliding tackle, before getting to his feet to clear ahead of another attacker!
34’ – Naby Yattara has had an eventful first half so far, though ironically few saves to make.
36’ – Botswana with an injury worry as Ofentse Nato is down with what looks like a right thigh knock.
38’ – Ismael Bangoura faced with two defenders but he does really well to get a shot on target, though it’s a comfortable save for Modiri Marumo.
39’ – Botswana Substitution: Patrick Motsepe replaces Ofentse Nato
40’ – An injury-enforced change for the Zebras, they will miss Ofentse Nato’s presence in midfield.
42’ – Abdoul Camara (Guinea) scores!

45’ – There will be two minutes of added time.
45 + 2’ – Patrick Motsepe (Botswana) is sent off.
– Things go from bad to worse for the Zebras as substitute Patrick Motsepe is sent off for a studs-up challenge on Pascal Feindouno!
45 + 4’ – Ibrahima Traoré (Guinea) scores!
– Ibrahima Traore makes it 4-1, scoring from the free kick which saw Patrick Motsepe sent off! His shot hits the inside of the post low down on its way into the back of the net!
45 + 5’ – The referee brings the first half to an end.
– What a dreadful first half for Botswana! They are 4-1 down and have only ten men for the rest of the game. There's no back for them...
46’ – Botswana Substitution: Boitumelo Mafoko replaces Pontsho Moloi
46’ – Back underway in the second half. Botswana have made a tactical switch at the break, so that’s two of their three subs used already.
47’ – Ismael Bangoura with a half chance but he loses his balance as he shoots and put the effort high and wide.
49’ – Ibrahima Traore tries a long range shot but only succeeds in hitting Abdoul Camara in the head.
50’ – A clash of heads from a Guinea corner kick sees Musa Ohilwe down and in pain. He’s soon back on his feet, though...
51’ – Sadio Diallo with a low shot from just outside the box but it’s no real trouble for Modiri Marumo.
52’ – Musa Ohilwe (Botswana) is cautioned.
53’ – A bit of a worry for Guinea here as Kamil Zayatte is limping after a 50-50 challenge. They’ll hope he isn’t seriously injured.
55’ – Sadio Diallo charges down a defender before getting a shot away but his effort balloons over the target.
57’ – Pascal Feindouno takes a corner kick for Guinea, cleared at the near post by Tshepo Motlhabankwe.

59’ – Pascal Feindouno with a long range shot that hits the underside of the crossbar, bounces over the goal line and goes out! No goal given, though! It should have been 5-1!
60’ – That was a definite goal for Guinea, TV replays confirm it! Luckily it’s not too controversial because they are going to win this game comfortably anyway... still, there should be some kind of use of technology.
62’ – A rare attack for 10-man Botswana but it ends quickly as Jerome Ramatlhakwana is flagged offside.
64’ – Guinea Substitution: Ibrahima Conte replaces Pascal Feindouno
65’ – Guinea with a swift attack, Ibrahima Traore cuts inside from the right to shoot, but the ball is deflected by a defender and easily held by Modiri Marumo.
66’ – It’s been a pretty quiet second half compared to the first. Pascal Feindouno’s disallowed goal has been the only real talking point...
67’ – Guinea are still pushing forward enthusiastically. Botswana have gone into damage limitation mode it seems.
68’ – Guinea Substitution: Alhassane Bangoura replaces Ibrahima Traoré
69’ – Ismael Bangoura with a chance to make it 5-1 after a clever turn and shot but he hits the outside of the post!
71’ – Alhassane Bangoura takes a corner kick for Guinea but it comes to nothing.
72’ – Naby Yattara intercepts a ball over the top from a rare Botswana foray forward.
73’ – Botswana Substitution: Mogakolodi Ngele replaces Phenyo Mongala
74’ – Ibrahim Conte through on goal, he rounds the ‘keeper... but shoots off target! It’s a good thing this missed opportunities aren’t going to cost Guinea anything.
76’ – Successive corners to Botswana. Mogakolodi Ngele takes them both, but neither threatens the Guinea goal.
78’ – Guinea put the ball out of play so Sadio Diallo can receive treatment after coming off worse in a challenge with Dipsy Selolwane.
80’ – Guinea Substitution: Naby Soumah replaces Sadio Diallo
81’ – Less than ten minutes to play now. Guinea will hope that knock to Sadio Diallo is nothing serious.
82’ – Naby Yattara punches clear from a Botswana corner and Guinea counter attack... here’s another chance for Ismael Bangoura, his shot is half blocked and bounces off the top of the crossbar!
84’ – Mamadou Bah (Guinea) scores!
– Finally it is 5-1! Mamadou Bah cracks a long range shot, it deflects wickedly off Boitumelo Mafoko and hits the back of the net!
86’ – Naby Soumah (Guinea) scores!
– And now it’s 6-1, Naby Soumah strikes across the face of goal and beats Modiri Marumo low to his right!
88’ – Poor Botswana. This is really a game to forget as far as they are concerned. Nothing has gone right for them.
89’ – They’ll just want the torture to end as quickly as possible now...
90’ – This will be, by far, Guinea’s biggest win at an Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
90 + 1’ – There will be three minutes of added time.
90 + 3’ – The referee blows the whistle for Full Time.
– The torture is over for Botswana. Guinea are back in quarterfinal contention after this resounding win. Stay with us for live coverage of the Ghana v Mali match.
