Ivory Coast celebrate a goal late in the first half
Ivory Coast won their third match in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations as they defeated Angola 2-0 in Malabo to finish on top of Group B.

Emmanuel eboue opened the scoring for the Elephants in the first half before Wilfried Bony added the second midway through the second half.

In a match where there weren’t too many goal scoring opportunities, the Elephants showed their experience as they controlled the flow of the match.

Max Gradel saw his shot saved comfortabley by Angolan goalkeeper Wilson in the 6th minute while his teammate Wilfried Bony drew a brilliant one-handed save with a low drive eight minutes later.

Kolo Toure also sent his shot wide from a freekick in the 22nd minute but the deadlock was broken eleven minutes later when Emmanuel Eboue arrived at the far post to bundle the ball into the back of the net as Miguel failed to deal with a cross from Bony.

The Sable Antelopes of Angola continued to leave Manucho isolated upfront and didn’t look like a team that was looking to score a goal, although Sudan had already taken the lead against Burkina Fasoin the other crucial Group B match in Bata.

The Angolans’ were punished for their sloppiness at the back in the 64th minute from a defensive error when defender Dani Massunguna headed the ball over his goalkeeper who was coming out to clear.

The goal would’ve surely gone down as an own-goal had Wilfried Bony not pushed the ball into the net before it crossed the goal line.

The second goal woke the Angolans from their slumer and they started to press forward but Manucho’s header was palmed away by Daniel Yeboah in the 78th minute, while Marco Airosa’s header was cleared off the line by Kolo Toure just two minutes later.

Nevertheless, it proved to be too little too late for Angola as they were unable to get the goal they needed to stay in the competition.

Sudan held on to record their first win in the Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso, one which saw them sneaking into second place ahead of the unimaginative Angola.
