Angola led twice in the match, but still could not take full points off a plucky Sudan who gave everything in their second Group B game in Malabo.

Manucho struck twice for Angola while Mohamed Ahmed Bashir notched a brace for Sudan.

Angola started the stronger side after scoring an early goal, but Sudan settled down after the first fifteen minutes, once they had found their feet.

Manucho’s 5th minute goal highlighted his awareness in the final third of the field.

After a mistake in the Sudanese defence, Manucho robbed an opponent of the ball and burst towards goal on the right side of the danger area. He then drove his shot across goal with his right foot and in off the post.

Sudan’s first attempt at goal came after 19 minutes when Muhannad Tahir found space outside the danger area in the centre of the field. He whipped in a left footed attempt that Angola ‘keeper Carlos could only parry away into safety.

Then Angola seemed to take their foot off the pedal a little and it came back to hurt them when Sudan equalised in the 33rd minute.

Mohamed Ahmed Bashir got up in between two defenders to glance a header across goal and in, after he met Eltaib Mudather’s cross from the right flank.

A few minutes later, on the other end, Djalma got into a good scoring position for Angola, but his attempt was cleared off the line by an alert Sudanese defender.

But it took just five minutes of the second stanza for Angola to take the lead again.

A foul by Hamid Nazar Djalma inside the area earned Angola a penalty and Manucho made no mistake from the spot kick, drilling home a left footed shot into the bottom corner of goal.

But Sudan once more fought their way back into the contest and took advantage of a defensive slip up to draw level again.

When Angola failed to deal with a loose ball inside the danger area, Mohamed Ahmed Bashir pounced like a cobra to lash home the bouncing ball that nobody had dealt with.

Two-all was the final score and Angola will probably feel disappointed they did not win the match, but full credit to Sudan for the fight they showed.
